We all have had times where we took a few steps forward, just to take a step back (or quite a few). My first round of weight loss was a good example of taking almost as many steps backwards as I did forward, so I was no stranger to this. Continue reading “How I got here: Part 4”
With my job, having time to actually get lunch is a special event. Most of the time, I get a few spare minutes to run the restroom, dial into another call, and then run to the break room (while I’m on a call) and grab my grub. So preparing lunches in advance is a huge help. Continue reading “Thoughts on Lunch: Winter Main Dish”
I owe a big THANK YOU to my Hip Hop Fitness instructors. Collectively, they’ve helped me achieve some amazing things this year and I’m so grateful! Thank you Mike, Jacque, Martha, Melissa, and Shannon! Continue reading “Thank You HHF & Gluten Free Paleo Pumpkin Bread”
In late 2011, my employer encouraged all employees to go through a free wellness screening in order to get some extra money. So, I figured why the heck not – I may be big, but I should be somewhat healthy, right? I learned that my numbers were nowhere near “healthy.” Here’s some snippets: Continue reading “How I got here: Part 2”
A huge part of my success with weight loss this year has been trying Hip Hop Fitness. My friend Alisa and I were doing a cardio class (kickboxing-ish) and we got there early (I always run early) and ran into the instructor, Jacque, leaving from the first class. So – Alisa thought we should try it out…
I was absolutely nervous…I’d never really taken a “dance” class in my life and the last time I had done any time of dancing was my senior year of high school…in a musical…and I wasn’t really “good” then. But – after taking one class – I was hooked! Now I go about 3-4 times a week, not because I really need that much cardio, but because it’s actually a lot of fun.
So – while I may not be the best dancer and I may not have the moves like Jagger, at least I can have fun! By the way, you can thank Alisa for this horrible video, too…I figured I might as well post this before she tries to embarrass me on her blog first.
It’s been cold in Ohio. I mean…really cold. I know I should be used to the cold, living in the Midwest my entire life, but I’m not too keen on being chilled to the bone. So – that means it’s time for soup! I haven’t been too adventurous with my soup selections since adapting a Paleo diet lifestyle, so I decided to find something a little more unique. That’s when I stumbled upon River North Paleo Girl’s “Creamy” Crockpot Chicken and Tomato Soup. This involved using Coconut milk, which I haven’t really played around with much at all. I’m a stickler for a daily routine…as you’ll see, I like to cook all of my meals on Sunday so that they’re ready to go throughout the week. For breakfast, I eat two of these little devils and then another egg treat about an hour later, usually because I get distracted by something at work.

My family is great – they really are. I’ve got a great and supportive bunch of crazy – and not so crazy folks – and I love them all. However, beyond being great, most of us share another common trait: being big. Although this means we get to eat a lot of great tasting food, it also brought a lot of other ailments, such as diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, and more. I’ve lost a lot of my family way too early – including my own mother when I was 11 from colon cancer.
